Life is a lesson

Are you a lifelong learner?

Gulmarg

From the moment you are in the womb until the moment you take your last breath, you keep learning—either deliberately or unknowingly.

When you are a child, everything seems magical. Every step you take feels almost godlike. A few years later comes youth. It fills you with boundless energy, but at the same time demands tremendous effort.

Then come disappointments, frustrations, and responsibilities that shape your life in ways you never imagined. Sometimes they break you, sometimes they build you, but most of the time, they teach you.

Old age has not yet come for me, but I see it in my father and grandfather. It may limit you physically, but psychologically you become stronger after learning life’s many lessons. You become a teacher, yet there are still countless things left to learn.

Eventually, you understand the essence of life:

To live is to learn, and to die is to stop learning.

YES SIR…and when one stops learning, life stops, essentially!

This is a profoundly beautiful reflection, and the title ‘Gulmarg’—meaning ‘meadow of flowers’—feels like the perfect metaphor for this lush, ever-unfolding journey you’ve described. I love how you’ve balanced the duality of each phase: the magic of childhood contrasted with its fragility, the boundless energy of youth weighed down by its immense demands, and the physical constraints of old age beautifully offset by an unshakeable psychological fortitude. Your observation that struggles “sometimes break you, sometimes build you, but most of the time, they teach you” is incredibly grounding. It reframes hardship not as a punishment, but as a necessary curriculum that shapes our character more than our joys ever could. And that closing line—”To live is to learn, and to die is to stop learning”—is a mantra worth carrying into every single day. It reminds us that as long as we are breathing, the classroom is always open, and the teacher is life itself. Thank you for sharing this gentle, wise piece. It reads like a quiet conversation with a patient, knowing soul—and it lingers long after the last word.
