Happiness on the trails

When are you most happy?

” The secret of happiness is something to do” – John Burroughs

To Keep moving is the way of life. You face the worst of days but to get stuck and keep cursing those negative moments, only ruins everything good that might happen next.

Yes, it’s difficult to not give a damn about disappointing or sad moments but  just keep one thing in mind-

You can’t change your past so just forget about that, so now what’s next you can do?

And just like that make plans for your next commitment. This will make you forget those negative moments with the hope of something better in the future.

When you are so engrossed in your work so much that you forget the passing of time, you live in the ‘Now’ without the worries of the past. That is true happiness which resides deep within.

For me, I feel most alive when I am travelling or when I am trekking  in the mountains. It’s like a meditation in the wilderness of nature when your entire focus is on the tricky trails without the thoughts of past and future. Here ,your biggest reward or happiness is being present in the lap of mother nature.

A Father’s Sacrifice

Describe a man who has positively impacted your life.

A man who stood tall,

Against the cyclone of time.

A man who stayed with his love,

Till her last breath,

And kept his promise.

The promise to be the mother,

To be the perfect father,

To their most beautiful creation,

Their kids….

Most of us believe that God has created us, but some skeptics want proof. I guess the biggest proof is always around you, they not only created you but also ensured that you grow up under their shadow to become a perfect image of them .

Yes, they are your parents, they are living Gods around you. They are the epitome of sacrifice , a perfect example that God not only takes care of you but also forgives you if you lose your way.

Exactly 13 years ago ( quite a coincidence with this prompt) my mother took her last breath. She was suffering from kidney failure. My father stayed with her till the end like a pillar.

He used to stay all night with my mother when she felt the pain after every dialysis to give her comfort and in the morning without any sleep he attended his office duties . My mother in her last days was extremely worried about me and my 2 sisters and so my father promised her to be the perfect parent to their kids.

Since then that man has ensured everything in the world for his kids. Like a mother he cooked food for his kids, like a father ensured the safety of his kids and like a God stayed with his kids in their bad days.

It’s quite impossible for me to give back everything to him but I will try my best to be a perfect son. I guess you should worship your parents every day, a time also comes when that baton is passed on to you to become an image of them.

An element of that light is there in all of us and it’s up to us how soon we recognise or realise about that .

Life is Unpredictable

Is your life today what you pictured a year ago?

Expectations are the biggest enemy of humankind. Whether you expect from your loved ones or from yourself, your wishes hardly come true. It’s like a cage you want to put on yourself or on others to get the desired outcome.

But life always gives you surprises. It doesn’t run according to you. You can see dreams, work hard for it but it is not necessary that it will come true. Disappointments are the result of expectations.

You should follow your path of karma religiously but you should never worry about the result. Let the future comes the way it is. Let life take you where it wants to. Give it scope to show you its colours. Mind you it always has something good for you.

I always have resolutions for the upcoming year, I am able to follow some of them but I never expect anything from the future. I Just try to live the moment that is passing now.

Let’s make our ‘Now’ as beautiful as possible and these moments in the present will surely make our future bright.

The Goodness you leave behind

Tell us one thing you hope people say about you.

Kongdoori meadows Gulmarg

We hardly know what people say behind us. They may act good on your face but it is not necessary that they talk about good things behind you. So , it can be said, that most of us are extremely curious to know what people talk about when we are not around them.

We cannot please everyone, we may show kindness to everyone but we might not get in return. Though it is in our hands what we do to others. Well, it is quiet in our human nature to react as per our surroundings. If someone hates us, we hate them back and very few of us are hardly able to react in a kinder way.

Anger , hate, enmity all come to us so easily but it never gives anything good to the world, or even to our mental peace. The world we live in is still alive or going well ( at least for the most part) because of the few good people who choose to spread kindness and love in spite of the hate they receive.

For me, you can even win over your enemies by being kind. I have seen people when they come at you with anger , if you talk with them kindly they calm down very quickly and most importantly they regret showing anger at you . I think this is the magic of goodness and kindness, it is what we call as order in the chaos around us.

We have a limited time in this world as humans, let’s make this world a better place to live in by being good to others especially to the unfortunate ones. We might not get anything good in return but we have to stay calm for those who understand  and will remember you when you are gone.

I may not stay here for long but my goodness should stay here immortally in the hearts of the people who understand me or who will one day understand me.

Fighting Stage Fright

Have you ever performed on stage or given a speech?

It’s quite natural for us to feel the fear of going on stage and performing or speaking in front of a crowd. You become numb and either hesitate to speak or forget the tune or lyrics while performing. It mostly happens when you have not done it before or going on stage after a long gap.

It happened to me in my school and college days. If you are reading my blog you know I used to sing and play guitar in my college days. I felt the fear initially and I realised with time that practice off the stage is the key.

The more you practice, the better you will become. When you practice again and again in spite of Knowing that you have mastered it, it comes into your habit. And when something comes into your habit, it doesn’t require much of your brain to process it.

For example if you learnt to drive a car and you are driving it regularly then your brain has very little to do while driving. Your hands and legs move almost automatically on gear , steering, clutch, brake and accelerator since it is engrained in your habit or muscle memory.

This process also works on stage. Most of us feel stage fright and it mostly happens because our mind or brain plays games with us. It haunts us but if you have practiced hard enough your muscle memory (or habit) is more than enough to overcome stage fright.

So next time before you go on stage , make sure you have madly rehearsed your performance off stage.

When the losers Rise

What is something others do that sparks your admiration?

Alpathar Lake Gulmarg

Perfection is inspiring. A perfectionist grabs the attention of many people. People try to become like them, become like their idol , a genius. But very few become like them and so become frustrated.

Yes, it is true that all those idols , genius or perfectionists work extremely hard to become what they are now and most of them hardly get defeated.

But, I believe you learn more from the fallen ones because they are like you , because they are not geniuses and they are a mediocre talent like you. We should look for those people and wait for their rise when after several defeats they managed to utilise a single cell of their remaining strength to bounce back.

These people were once called losers but they didn’t give up. They had faith in their abilities and so worked extremely hard to taste a single grain of success. Sometimes they do not even get success but they never stop trying till their last breath.

These people teach you to never doubt your abilities, maybe you are weak but if you are living you should never stop trying.

To keep moving or to keep grinding should be the motto of life because contentment comes from your hard work more than your success.

Celebrity Question – daily prompt

Share five things you’re good at.

Well , most people don’t care what you are good at unless you are a celebrity..

Anyways the WordPress community makes you feel that. So here is my response if you are reading…

In my school and college days I have been very good in music and cricket. I used to play guitar and sing , I participated in choir and in various cultural programs.

Then for the rest of the time I have been a very important member of the school cricket team. We did great then, won a few tournaments and saw my name in newspapers a couple of times.

Apart from this,  the other 3 things I am good at, or I believe I am good at are video editing, writing and encouraging people .

Well if your skill is to motivate others and make them feel good when they are having a bad day, then you are doing a great job, probably better than anything else.

So my celebrity time is over, I hope you all are doing fine….

Changing yourself

What is one thing you would change about yourself?

When you are born , you are hardly aware of fear. As you grow , you come across various obstacles like fear , self doubt and low will power . These negative thoughts stop you from progressing in life.

But , apart from this some of us luckily come across courage. To some it comes from within and to some it comes from people around them like parents, teachers, friends or coaches.

When it comes to me , I was an introvert kid. I hardly made friends and that made me extremely nervous on stage or speaking in public. My only source of strength was my parents.

With time , I progressed slowly and I somehow dared to perform as a musician on stage and sometimes I spoke in public. I came to realise the more you will push yourself to do difficult things , the better you will become. Practice is the biggest key.

But then time passed , I got failures, few successes here and there but mostly I was dented by a new obstacle , Procrastination!

I am the king of all Procrastinators. Things which I should have done a long time ago are still pending now. My sane mind shouts at me to do certain things but I somehow manage to ignore . I sometimes feel an invisible force is pulling me like I am a slave of someone.

I guess , procrastination is the enemy of many humans. It surely diminishes the capabilities of a man. It diminishes the will power as well which is the after effect of this. You already know how to tackle this , you just need to stand up, move and start doing without overthinking.

I hope in the near future I will tackle this problem in a much better way. And fear, I will try to face head on, it doesn’t matter whether I lose or win , what does matter is my fight.

I hope my fellow readers , you too keep fighting because life is not only about struggles but your fight against struggles too.

A Night that felt like a dream

Are you more of a night or morning person?

Pabbar Valley Himachal pardesh at night

It rained and snowed throughout the trek (Buran Ghati pass Trek). The days were spent in frustration as we walked under the angry clouds that thrashed us with sleet , snow and rain. We walked among the angry mountains and we spent most of our time in tents at camps.

Just before our summit day ( buran pass), it snowed heavily and our chance of crossing the pass looked bleak . But then just at the exact time we had to start the climb , the clouds found their peace and they opened up to reveal the beauty my eyes weren’t expecting.

The entire landscape glowed with snow under the light of the moon. It felt like a different planet, maybe a paradise looked like that. The peace of that night flowed on the cold breeze that came from the sacred Himalayas . It whispered the tales of Gods that roamed in those valleys from the beginning of time.

The whole experience probably stayed in my mind like a precious jewel which is impossible for me to forget.

So now whenever I think of nights , I think of that night which really felt like a fairytale. Since then whenever I wake up in the middle of the night , I feel the same shiver which I felt on that night. And sometimes those memories come back as a dream on some nights…..

My adventure suit

What are your two favorite things to wear?

I love to hike and trek in the mountains. Whenever I am in the wilderness of the Himalayas with my favourite trekking shoes on ,I feel I am in a fictional world full of excitement.

I really love my High ankle, waterproof trekking shoes and my trek pants with 4 chain pockets. I keep my pocket friendly gopro cams and sometimes my gloves in those pockets. It really gives me the feeling of a warrior on a mission.

When I am not hiking , just the glimpse of my shoes and trek pants give me a hell lot of positivity, as if I am transported in the shelter of nature, looking at the broader picture of life.

There are certain things in life which give us true happiness, not because we use them but because we experience something greater because of them.
